What is Filler?

Filler or dermal filler is a gel-like substance that is composed of Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring structural protein that exists in the soft tissues of your body (such as the skin, the joints and the eyes). Filler can be injected into areas of the face or body to reverse the signs of ageing or enhance a person’s features.

How does it work?

The ageing process involves changes that occur across all layers of the face including the skin, fat ligaments and even bone. As a result, we lose facial volume and structure which leads to areas of hollowing, deep folds, jowls and skin laxity. By injecting HA in appropriate quantities we can restore areas of volume loss, lift areas of laxity and redefine lost contours, leaving you looking more refreshed and rejuvenated.

What does the procedure involve?

Filler procedures involve the precise injection of small quantities of HA just beneath the skin. There are different injection techniques depending on which filler treatment you have and the desired effect that is to be achieved. On the whole filler treatments are quick to perform and very tolerable. Local anaesthetic creams or injections can be used to make you more comfortable when treating slightly more sensitive areas, such as the lips or the nose, or if you have a phobia of needles.

A common concern with dermal filler injections is the fear of looking puffy or overfilled. This only occurs when treatments are conducted where there is little or no indication, or when too much filler has been injected. This undesirable outcome is therefore easily avoidable by injecting appropriate quantities of filler in patients that will benefit from treatment. At Carriages, we pride ourselves on natural looking undetectable results, ensuring we keep you looking and feeling like your best self.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Immediately after the procedure, there may be some redness, swelling or very mild bruising at the injection points but this occurs infrequently and will usually settle within 48 hours.

The effect of the filler is immediate so results will be visible straight away. You can expect results to last from 9 to 18 months depending on the area being treated and the density of filler used.

Lip filler

Lip filler is the most requested cosmetic procedure in the UK. Its growth in popularity has seen the procedure become a household name, sometimes for the wrong reasons. Whilst lip filler is often associated with younger individuals, lip filler can achieve many desired outcomes and can have a huge impact on attractiveness across all ages.

Since the beginning of time, the lips have played a central role in the perception of beauty, with the shape, size and symmetry of lips closely associated with attractiveness and youth.

Lip filler can be injected to add symmetry to the lips or accentuate desirable features like the cupid’s bow. It can restore the loss of volume we see with age and rejuvenate the lower face. Adding volume to the lips can balance facial features and complement other areas of the face.

Carriages are renowned for beautiful lip filler results because we follow a simple mantra. We always respect natural proportions. If you are looking for overfilled unnatural looking lips, we are not the clinic for you. Our lip filler treatments will always compliment your natural facial features and leave you feeling like a more confident, sexy, and youthful version of you.

We only use soft low density filler in this area in order to mimic the naturally soft, delicate and supple consistency of lips. Results can therefore be expected to last 9 -12 months.

Cheek Filler

Cheek filler has the potential to dramatically reduce the signs of ageing or create more structure and definition to the face.

The cheeks are composed of small pockets of fat (fat pads) which are organised into deep and superficial layers. In our younger years, the cheeks are full and high due to plum fat pads which are held tightly together. As we age the fat pads shrink in size and migrate downwards, with supporting structures becoming lax. This results in classical signs of ageing, with the mid-face becoming hollow and sunken. Shadowing forms below the cheekbones creating a tired looking appearance. Filler is used to replenish this loss of volume and revitalise the mid face. Adding volume diminishes the shadowing and reverses this sunken appearance. This has a dramatic effect in rejuvenating the face as light now bounces high off of the cheeks giving a more youthful rejuvenated appearance.

Cheek filler can be artistically layered to create contour and shape to the face. Many people use makeup to contour and highlight their cheekbones. Cheek filler works in a similar way. With just a small amount of filler artistically layered in precise areas, a light reflex can be created which highlights the cheeks and gives them a lifted appearance. Tweaking the cheeks in this way can have a huge aesthetic impact and create jaw-dropping modelesque looks.

The procedure is typically performed with both a needle and a cannula. A dense filler is used to recreate the firmness of the cheekbone. This means you can expect results to last over 18 months.

Tear Trough

The tear trough is the sunken area below the eyes that causes dark circles. The tear trough deformity is very common amongst both men and women and forms due to gradual changes in the skin, fat and muscles and ligaments over time. The rate at which this deformity develops is dependent on a variety of ageing factors, including genetics. These changes ultimately result in a depression or groove with shadowing being cast in that area when light falls on the face. By lifting this groove we are able to eliminate the shadowing and dark circles and restore fresher, less tried looking eyes.

The procedure is performed using a single cannula via a single entry point which minimises bruising and swelling. The procedure is very tolerable and takes no more than 15 minutes

The filler used to treat the tear trough should always be soft low density filler, similar to the surrounding tissue of the undereye area. Soft fillers tend to break down faster than more dense fillers. However, most of the patients see results extending beyond 12 months.

Jawline filler

Jawline filler is done for different reasons:

Anti-Ageing – the formation of jowls is probably the most disliked and complained about ageing characteristic. It’s inevitable that at one point we will, or already have, looked in the mirror and pulled in front of our ears to see our face with a crisp, youthful, jowl-free jawline. Well, there is a solution! Filler can camouflage the appearance of jowls by precisely injecting filler along the jawline and making it appear straight. Injecting filler in this way has massive impact in creating a more youthful appearance.

Femininity – beauty is subjective. However, a well-defined, V-shaped, slender jawline is often considered most attractive for females. Filler can be used to reshape the jawline to create these characteristics. Feminisation jawline filler has become one of the most coveted aesthetic procedures due to the elegance it creates and the confidence it instils in people.

Masculinisation – The male jawline has a key role in male attractiveness. Of course, beauty is subjective, but a wide set, angular, square jawline is often considered most attractive in men. Think Brad Pitt, Dwayne (the rock) Johnson and Henry Cavill.  It’s theorised this is due to our ancestral instincts. Males exhibiting these characteristics are thought to have more testosterone and able to produce healthy offspring. Filler can be used to create these masculine features. A few drops in the right places can transform one’s appearance into a more handsome powerful face.

Non Surgical Rhinoplasty

Surgical Rhinoplasty (nose job) is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in the cosmetic industry, but with the high costs, long recovery times and significant risks involved, going under the knife is not an option for many patients.

The non-surgical rhinoplasty (also known as liquid rhino or nose filler) is a fantastic alternative for those not wanting surgery. In less than 15 mins bumps, humps, kinks and irregularities can be straightened out with just a few injections of hyaluronic acid (filler). The nose can also be reshaped to make it appear slimmer or shorter and also lift downturned nasal tips. The results are stunning and, in many cases, better than surgical outcomes. The real charm of this procedure is that results are immediate which often trigger a few tears as patients admire the new nose they have always dreamed of.

Results usually last 12-18 months as your body slowly breaks down the HA. At 12-18 months you might need a slight tweak to give the nose that fresh of the needle crisp finish.

This procedure is truly life changing and is the perfect solution for those who have always wanted to change the shape of the nose without going under the knife.
